The Kite Runner: Reflection 4

Chapter 8 begans sort of slow. Amir is explaining how his father and two dozens of others traveled to Jalalabad. Amir gets motion sickness and ruins his cousin's dress. Later on in the chapter, the corruption of Amir's secret begins to settle in. Some time has passed after the rape of Hassan that Amir witnessed. He still has yet to tell anyone. On the trip, when everyone else is sleeping, Amir whispers that he watched Hassan get raped. He explained he wished someone heard him so he could feel free. This event helped me to see the vunerable side of Amir. The only reason he feel the way he does it because he is trapped by the truth. If I was there, I would tell Amir it is okay to feel gulity, bur the truth will come out somehow. Another thing that is displayed in this chapter is the continuation of Amir and Hassan's complex relationship. It is said that Hassan tried multiple times to regain the original spark they had, but in anger and fear, Amir responded negatively. Here you can also see that status power kick in. The way Amir responds to Hassan is an example of this. The next scene is Amir and Hassan going to this hill. Amir told Hassan he had a new story to tell. Instead of reading the story, Amir had something else in mind. He questioned Hassan on what he would do if he threw a pomegenate at him. Amir forceful threw the fruit at Hassan multiple times, Hassan responded with nothing. Once Amir for tired, Hassan to took a fruit and bashed it against his head. Posing the question, is Amir satisfied. The end of this chapter was set on the day of Amir's birthday party. Not to anyone's surprise, Assef and his gang were there. His parents were also in attendance. Amir explained that Assef's parents conveyed a spirt of fear, as if Assef has frightened them. The gift that Amir recieved from Assef was a biography of Hitler. Portraying the message he gave to them the day Hassan threathened him with a slingshot. Amir also discusses how Hassan still had to cater to Assef at the party.
